SAFe in Government Programs

The U.S. and international federal, regional and local governments have a mandate from the public to spend money on software and systems in the most cost-efficient and productive manner. As a result, many have found their way to SAFe, and many are reporting gains in productivity and costs savings that far exceed even some of the extraordinary benefits from the commercial sector. In this talk, Steve Mayner, SAFe Fellow will discuss strategies for adopting SAFe in government and will present successful case studies and the critical topics of acquiring solutions with Agile contracting, multivendor teams and programs, governance, audit, and earned value management.

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • Review the trends driving increased adoption of Lean-Agile in government programs
  • Explore the steps to transition government programs from traditional software and systems development models to Lean-Agile and DevOps mindset, principles, and practices using SAFe
  • Adapt strategy, budgeting, acquisition, compliance, and governance processes to embrace Lean, flow-based practices aligned to emerging government guidance
  • Follow success patterns for SAFe implementation adapted to the government context
